A Day in Chattanooga for Logan “Mac” Turner

A Day in Chattanooga for Logan "Mac" Turner

Mac’s Day in Chattanooga

A week ago I shared the story of a 20-month old little boy named Mac who is fighting a rare form of cancer. At that time, I had hopes of being able to plan a few days of fun in Chattanooga for this little guy and his family while he was on a break from his chemo.

I am not sure why I was surprised at how generous local businesses were and how eager they were to help this deserving little guy but they came through in big ways.

On Wednesday, we started off at the Chattanooga Zoo. Mac was supposed to have had a day at the Nashville Zoo the day before. This, unfortunately, wasn’t possible as the results from his lab work at Vanderbilt led to a platelet transfusion that took up most of the day. Knowing all that Mac and this family of six had gone through made their visit to Chattanooga even more important.

The staff at the Chattanooga Zoo went all out for Mac. He was welcomed with a stuffed turtle (one of his favorites) and was then escorted throughout the zoo on his own private tour. This included up close encounters with a real life turtle and Wembley the wallaby. The staff was extremely accommodating and allowed Mac, his brothers, sister, and parents to really see and learn more about our incredible zoo. Mac wrapped up the day with a carousel ride with his daddy by his side. The zoo also provided lunch for the family.

Mac was a trooper throughout the zoo visit, but was having a rough time. He was not feeling well and so the remainder of the day was spent at the hotel. The Courtyard Chattanooga Downtown was kind enough to provide the family with an upgraded room overlooking the river and the Tennessee Aquarium. They also provided meals for the family during their stay. While the remainder of the trip was spent in the hotel, you could not have asked for a more beautiful view of our city. Considering how much time they have spent in hospitals lately hopefully, this provided a nice break away.

Sadly, Mac was just not up for our second day of adventure to the Creative Discovery Museum. But, they generously provided tickets for the family to return another time when Mac is ready for a day of fun.

This family continues to need your prayers and support. To learn more about this sweet little boy and ways you can help, please visit his Facebook page.
